State Fair Corn Dog Coupon

If you love a good Memorial Day "meat-on-a-stick," gotta go here to download a coupon. Click your back button to print it a couple times!

Betrayed by words

Sometimes things sound fantastic, when they are not really that great. For example, I have been purchasing 'extra lean' ground beef from a particular store and was so excited because it tasted so good and was super cheap! Then I decided to make some taco meat with it and as I was browning it, I was shocked at the amount of grease in the pan for 'extra lean' meat. I decided to check the package and there was no indication of the fat content. So I called the store. I was informed by the butcher that the 'extra lean' is 85/15 and the 'super lean' is 90/10. I had been trained to think that extra lean was the 90/10 and the super lean was 96/4 as it is at other stores, but that is not the case at this particular store. I thought I would share that story to illustrate that sometime the wording on "deals" is all just words. Do you research and determine if it is really as spectacular as it says it is before you buy!

Most of the events are kid related, but there are some good ones for all ages (ie--Annie at Zilker, stargazing, etc). I still have things to add, but thought I would put this out there and if you know of something that's not on here...please let me know!! I'm also finishing up my listing of 'kids eat free or cheap." Sucker for The Place!!!!

So, I have been meaning to post here ever since I was granted the privilege, but instead have been content to passively enjoy. No more, I say. I shall post my finds. Yes, oh fellow Thrifties, I shall post.....Here is #1....

I am a sucker for sales at The Children's Place Outlet. They make me a little giddy because my Thrifty self likes stuff I can hand down kid-to-kid (or to nephew) that will stay looking good even after millions of washes.

Today I happened upon am awesome clearance. Little girls dress (< 3T) $2.99 (the ones that were $40 at Easter). Big girls dresses $4.99 (yeah, the $40 ones again). Skirts, summer sweaters, shirts, shorts, capris---lots of options for less than $5.

For boys they had awesome polo shirts for $2, button-up long and short sleeved shirts (great for church) for $5 or less. Even their non-clearance rack stuff was great....all shorts (ALL of the them) are $10 or less with a lot <$5. Even for the big kids.....and they all come with adjustable waists!!!

Confession----I've been there twice today. Don't judge me.....

Toy Story 1 & 2 DVD/Blu-ray Deal: Target or Toys R Us

So, I read about a great deal for the new Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack. It works...just got ours!!

So heres the deal from Hip2Save.com

Go to Disney Movie Rewards and login or register for an account. After this, enter the code 786936294507 in the orange box where it says "Enter Code." A link will appear that will allow you to print a coupon valid for $10 off Toy Story 1 DVD/Blu-ray combo pack. Then enter the code: 786936294521 and print a coupon valid for $10 off Toy Story 2 DVD/Blu-ray combo pack.

Then, you can go to Toys R Us where they are having a sale on Toy story...if you buy both 1 and 2, you get them for $16.99/each and then you can use your 2-$10 coupons to get them for $6.99/each. Inside each DVD is a code to get a free movie ticket to go see Toy Story 3 when it comes out this summer (an $8.50 value)...so if you use the movie ticket, you basically get the 2 DVDs and 2 movie tickets for $5.48 + tax...NICE!!!

Not mentioning why...I will never shop at Toys R Us or Babies R Us again...so I spent $2 more and went to Target where they have the same DVDs on sale for $22.99 each and then if you buy both, you get $10 off. So it works out to be $17.99/DVD and then use the two coupons from above and you score both DVDs for $7.99/each + the 2 free movie tickets. If you have Toys R Us' ad, you can take it with you to Target to have them price match the deal to save the $2. You have to have the actual ad though...they will not accept a printed version.

If you want a complete rundown of the deal, check it out here.

Walgreen's Blue Bell Deal

Walgreens (at least the one on Hwy 29 in Georgetown) has their Blue Bell Ice Cream for $4/half gallon. Use the coupons from here and get a half gallon of Blue Bell for $3!!! I don't know if this is a city-wide/state-wide sale, so you might call your local Walgreens to double check before venturing over there.

JoAnn's Friends & Family Coupon: 20% off total purchase

This weekend is JoAnn's Friends and Family Sale. They have a rare 20% off your total purchase Friday, March 26-Sunday, March 28. Go here to print them out.

Also if you've been shopping at CVS in the last couple months and racked up some good old double extra bucks, you should be seeing those soon!

Sprouts

I did a quick check of the sprouts ad and the 2 things that popped out were the pineapples for $.99!!! They are currently $3.99 at HEB.
And the Red Seedless Grapes for $.88/lb...again, at least $2/lb at HEB.

Target

I ventured to Target in this crazy weather and found some decent deals...mainly on diapers.
If you wander to the back of the Georgetown store, they have their "Great Save Event" section. They have marked most of those items down at least 15% and then you can use coupons on top of that.

Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers (size 5, 132 ct): $23.78 (down from $33.99)
use the $1.50/1 manufacturer coupon
final cost: $22.28 OR $.17/diaper

They also had Pampers Baby Dry Diapers marked down to $29.99 for a 233 ct box (size 1-2).
Also check in the baby section...there are boxes of diapers marked down to $29.99 and then they have a $30 coupon book inside the boxes (the boxes were specially marked) for more diapers, q-tips, graco, etc.

Boogie Wipes: $3.99
use the $2/1 coupon from here. I think Walgreens has a better deal...I just don't have time to go a million places right now...maybe someday :)
final cost: $1.99
(and they do have quite a smell to them. my little guy has rsv right now and so I thought these might be helpful for his little chapped nose...and he did not complain when I wiped him...he could be knocked out slightly from the stench...i'm not a fan of the scent).
Thanks hip2save!!

Ziploc bags: On sale 4/$9.
purchase 4
use $1.50/2 target coupon (note:they will only let you use 1/transaction)
use the $.40/1 coupon from the newspaper

Tidy Cat Kitty Litter (38 lb!!): on sale $10.49
use the $1/1 manufacturer coupon (can't remember where it's from...i promise i'll get better at this)
final cost: $9.49 for 38 lbs of the good stuff!!

Life Cereal (44oz): $4.42
They also had other cereals marked down.

They also had some good toys marked way down:
Mr. Potato Head Dr Kit (2 mr. potato heads & accessories): $11.88
Generic "nerf" guns: $10.88

And they had clothes marked down (just plain t-shirts and sweatshirts): range from $1.50-2.88.

The Beginning

I have recently taken up the new hobby of couponing and realized that it is more a way of life than a hobby. I had a very hard time finding any resources to help with using coupons effectively in the Round Rock/Austin area. So with that, I decided to start my own. I am not a pro yet at the use of coupons, but I have saved at least $30/week with our groceries and over $35 for each Target trip, so I'm getting there. Just please keep in mind that I am a newbie and will hopefully get better overtime!! So here's to happy couponing!!
